Renewable Energy Project – Vermont National Guard 2.2MW Solar Project
This $8.5M design/build renewable energy project at the Vermont Air National Guard involves about 7,000 individual 230 watt solar panels in three separate systems (solar trackers, roof mount array, and fix array). The majority of the capacity is from the 11 acre fixed array field.
Phase I -The design/build and partial build-out of the 2.2 megawatt solar arrays. The design portion included civil/site layout and details, photovoltaic solar system and electrical, performance data collection and reporting system, inverter and switchgear building, stormwater discharge permit application, and Vermont Public Service Board Rule 5.500 Interconnect Agreement Permit. The site work included around 45,000 cubic yards of earthwork and 15,000 linear feet of conduit. Phase I included 846 KW of solar photovotaliac (PV) panels.
Phase II – This phase added 813 KW of PV solar panels to bring the total output to 1.659 MW allowing for an additional 541 KW for future expansion as funding allows.
The work also involved extensive coordination with the Vermont Air National Guard, the Burlington International Airport, and the Federal Aviation Administration. The project completion date for installing the total 1.659 MW is September 2011.
